The Center is a massive A/U involving all of the boys from Backstreet, *NSync, some of O-Town, and various and sundry other popstars. There is no pop in this, though - the guys all get together at the titular center, which is a gay drop-in spot in an unnamed northwestern city. There are many different pairings, some new and some established. Pretty much everyone in the story is gay or bi.
Here's a short run-down of the primary characters:
Kevin Richardson - defense lawyer and gay activist, the only person in the group who makes any money whatsoever. Friends with Howie and Chris from way back, and Brian's cousin.
Chris Kirkpatrick - established and runs The Center (aka The Whitman Center for Pervy Boy-Fanciers) full time. Is continually worried about funds. Is in a long-term relationship with Joey.
Howie Dorough - AIDS activist, works at the Health Center with AJ. "Dated" Kevin casually for a while, but now they're just friends. Has a more-than-platonic interest in Nick.
Brian Littrell - Youth Minister and counsellor at the local branch of the Metropolitan Community Church (MCC). Also a gay activist. Kevin's cousin.
JC Chasez - Ex-porn star, now a phone sex operator. Involved in a live-in relationship with AJ for the past two years. Used to work with Nick and has known him for a long time.
Joey Fatone - An aspiring writer who works at a revolving series of temp jobs. Lives with Chris. Went to school with JC way back when.
AJ McLean - Ex-prostitute, now a safe-sex advocate and front-line worker for the Health Center. Does advocacy with sex workers, also an AIDS activist. Lives with JC.
Lance Bass - Brand-new to the city, he's Justin's best friend and along with him the story's "main character." Was not "out" back home, and is dealing with some culture shock now that he's part of a gay community in the city. Works at Starbucks, lives with Justin and Nick.
Ashley Angel - A prostitute and pre-op transsexual who used to work with AJ. One of Kevin's clients, friends with Howie and Brian.
Nick Carter - Former child-porn star, runaway. Has a dark and mysterious past, little bits of which will trickle out in the telling of the story.
Justin Timberlake - Moved to the city with Lance, and finds a place with him and Nick. Works in a department store as a stockboy. Budding gay activist.
There are a number of secondary characters, including Britney, Christina, and Pink, who are baby!dykes who Lance and Justin met while staying at a youth hostel when they first moved to the city; Trevor, Brian's boyfriend; Lou Pearlman, who is currently in jail for exploitation of a minor (Nick) and other offenses; and several other characters who have yet to be introduced.
